Blades of Grass

Blades of grass pool over her feet like the waves of a graceful ocean, untouched by the blades of humanity. Green touches her eyes with vivid hands. She reaches down, and places a singular blade between her fingertips, running the length until she reaches the bottom. She pulls lazily, releasing it from the earthly hold it was confined in. Then, she lets go and the blade slips into an unknown world, alone and drifting. It turns and wobbles, completely at ease and submissive to the wind that guides it. One day, it will land and find another home, but until then it floats among the dust of the air. The field of blades surrounding her march toward a sheer cliff. Without hesitation, a rocky wall overtakes the blades and shoots downward. The wall was once more, only until a mighty gale struck it down, tearing off pieces of its face. The rocks continue until they are drowned by pelagic waves. The mighty force of a deep and grand blue plunges itself into the...

Seagulls on the Wind

A distant seagull flapped its wings as the gentle sea breeze caught underneath it. Feathers ruffling amidst its wingspan as the cool air sent sparse feathers twirling into the sky. Serene blue waves bellowed and lurched towards the coarse sand that lay waiting  on the shore. Blue forming into foamy white as the waves crashed sending the peaceful sound of the ocean into the boy’s ears. His eyes tracked the seagull as he watched the elegant creature suddenly plummet towards the ocean’s surface. The bird’s mou th now agape as it crashed its body into the waves gathering something in its beak. As the bird ascended the boy watched a fish convulse and fight for its life, caught and utterly trapped in the tight squeeze of the bird’s beak. The boy placed his fishing rod down gently, watching the grains of sand form and curve around the length. He gracefully placed a hand next to the rod feeling the coarse and unevenness of the sand grip around his finger...

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Injection of Comedy

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Injection of Comedy  By: Kirk Brown Guardians of the Galaxy was released in 2014 in a time when the film medium was flooded with dark and serious superhero dramas. Movies such as The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel all dominated the superhero market in the years before Guardians of the Galaxy’s release. These movies all took very grounded and dramatic looks at the characters that were being portrayed in them and molded the superhero genre around that at the time. Guardians of the Galaxy looked at this trend in the superhero genre and asked what if we put a walking tree, a talking raccoon, a man-child, a meat head and a green alien together and sent them on a quest to find a magical glowing purple stone that could destroy a planet faster than you could sing, Oooh-Child, if you accidentally dropped it? The answer is you get a massive box-office hit. Guardians of the Galaxy successfu...
